Method of enlisting in the confraternity of Mt. Carmel, the institution of the scapular, or "garment of the Blessed Virgin." This was later begun in United States, in 1819, on feast of the Sacred Heart, 6/18/1819. See Currier, "Carmel in America," p. 138.
