Series 3: Spiritual Topics, Biddle Street
Scope and Contents
This series comprises the materials on spiritual topics, sermons, and spiritual themes that were kept by the nuns at Biddle Street. Most are authored by friends of Carmel, such as Charles Currier, or sent by those who believed the nuns would be interested in the topic addressed. In the latter category are, for example, a pastoral letter by Cardinal Mercier on a true devotion to Mary (1927); a pamphlet on the contemplative life given by A. Larraona, CMF, at Gethsemani (1952); and an address given by Pius XII to the 14th Congress of the World Union of Catholic Women's organizations (1957). Some are notes from meditations and reflections of retreat talks. A few represent the reflection of women religious.
