Corresp: James E.Walsh, 1945, 05/04/1944
Scope and Contents
6/15; re enjoyable visit; that he will remember that thing about the veils when next he visits; 10/22 great pleasure over idea of "colored contemplatives." No doubt that God will be pleased. Mentions colored priest, Fr. Howard, very intelligent and pious; in New Orleans children sit at same tables; in diocese Lafayette, no differentiation among the races; "racial discrimination is certainly a most un-Catholic thing, and it is a pity that our people...have been influenced..." "It seems to me that any differentiation of any sort about colored people isn't even American, let alone not being Catholic."
