France: Lisieux, An account during WWII, 1944
Scope and Contents
An account, written in french (with translation) by Lisieux Carmel and entitled: "In the tempest" Under the marvelous protection of St Theres of the Child Jesus. Composed by Sr Anne, sent 12/5/1944. She reports that, after Normandy (D-Day invasion), 3/4th of the city was destroyed. First bombardment 6/6/1944; railroad station hit; very near the Carmel. 2nd day: Benedictine convent totally destroyed; lives lost; 100 bombs, many deaths. 3rd day: Archives lost; evacuate to Basilica; out sisters' house destroyed; but not the chapel or building itself. A miracle? Cardinal Suhard : the vow to celebrate annually their rescue from certain destruction.
