Scope and Contents

5/20/46: first letter from Queen of Peace Carmel, Junkersdorf, written in extremely broken English, the writer says: "One of our sisters, Sister Teresa Benedicta of the Holy Cross, a jewish convertite, Dr. Edith Stein, was brought into a concentration camp the second of August 1942. As we have no further news from her, we must suppose that she has been killed." Subsequent letters speak of poverty, hunger, inflation, war-time deprivations caused by Hitler, and include mention of Therese Neumann, the mystic, death of another revered Carmelite, S. Gertrudis, 1937.
