Scope and Contents
Songbook, kept by S.Mary Bernard of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Mary (1769-1790). It contains one song, "Rachel Bewailing," composed by Reverend Charles Plowden in 1769 for Sister Bernard on Innocents Day and used just before the nuns left for America. Others made for "the old nuns." This was retained as a novitiate songbook until the 1960s, at Biddle Street, for the Feast of the Presentation.
